Resident Thoracic Surgery
Dr. Ivelin Karchev graduated from the Medical University of Pleven in 2024. In the same year, he joined the Department of Thoracic Surgery at UMHAT “Sveta Marina” – Pleven, where he is currently developing his professional career as a resident.
His professional interests are focused on modern diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in thoracic surgery. He has a strong interest in minimally invasive surgical techniques, including Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) and robotic thoracic surgery—advanced methods associated with reduced surgical trauma, shorter hospital stay, and faster patient recovery.
Dr. Karchev is particularly interested in the development and implementation of robotic technologies in thoracic surgery, which are increasingly being adopted in leading European and international medical centers.
Alongside his surgical work, he has a growing interest in bronchoscopy as a key diagnostic and therapeutic tool in thoracic medicine. His expertise includes both conventional and interventional bronchoscopy, applied in the diagnosis and management of pulmonary and bronchial diseases, tissue sampling, and endobronchial procedures.
